When your 10 year old gets Fired…
My son got fired today.
He’s crushed.
If you’ve ever been fired, you know the feeling — the sting, the gut punch, the “what now?” moment.
The thing is…
This was in VR.
On a game called Job Simulator.
He’s 10 years old.
For two years, he’s been climbing the ladder — promotion after promotion — making “tons of money” and managing teams under him. He was so proud of what he’d built.
And then today… a falling out with another boss, a mistake, and just like that, he was out.
He came to me, completely defeated.
And I had to do my best not to giggle while also holding space for his little heart.
The thing is, I’ve been teaching him entrepreneurship since before he could walk.
And this might be the closest thing he’ll ever experience to working for someone else — answering to bosses, climbing ladders, and hoping the rug doesn’t get pulled out from under him.
For so many people, though, this isn’t just a game.
It’s a reality.
- Getting laid off.
- Getting replaced by someone younger.
- Getting replaced by someone cheaper.
- Or, these days, getting replaced by AI.
But here’s what building my own business taught me — and what I’m raising him to know, too:
When you build your own business — and especially a Time Rich Business™ — that risk doesn’t apply to you.
You own the ladder.
You own the freedom.
And no one can take that away.
For now, though, we’re off for ice cream and a boardwalk stroll to cheer him up. 🍦
Because even little CEOs need a reset. 🫶
The Real Takeaway
Freedom isn’t just about money.
It’s about putting yourself in a position where you call the shots- and where few are needed.
When you own your business, you own your options.
You don’t have to wait for someone else to validate you, promote you, or decide your worth. You create your own ladder — and you decide how high you climb.
And if you’re tired of playing by someone else’s rules?
It might be time to start building something of your own.
Because once you do, you’ll never have to worry about being “fired” again.
