#1 Anime Expo
Currently the largest project managed by the SPJA, Anime Expo is an annual convention currently held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Historically Anime Expo (AX) has been held on July 4th weekend as a 4-day event. Anime Expo has grown in scale dramatically, and is currently the largest anime and manga convention in North America. It is the second longest running anime convention (after A-kon in Texas) starting in 1992. Popular large events include the Masquerade, Anime Music Video Contest, Concerts, Battle of the Bands, and the AX Fashion Show. Anime Expo is a 24-hour convention that offers late-night dances, all night video programming, tabletop gaming rooms, and open-mic Karaoke in the late evening/early morning hours. Many of the attendees cosplay while attending the convention, and there are many gatherings for fans of different anime and manga series. Renowned for its ability to bring famous guests to America for panels and concerts, Anime Expo has been the site of many U.S. premiers of shows, movies, and bands.

#2 Otakon
otakon Otakon 2015 is on its way, and the event is shaping up to be everything we’ve been wishing for. Our fairy godmothers have been waving their wands non-stop to conjure up amazing guests, magical concerts, and enough panels and workshops to make any otaku’s dream come true. Otakon is the convention of the otaku generation: by fans, for fans, and since 1999 we’ve reigned over much of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor with a three day event celebrating the diverse pop culture that has given us everything from Attack on Titan to Yu Yu Hakusho, from Hidden Fortress to Howl’s Moving Castle.

#3 Anime Central
anime central Anime Central (ACen) is Chicago’s and the Midwest’s largest anime, manga and Japanese popular culture convention. The convention is currently held in Rosemont, IL, less than 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. As part of its mission, ACen brings fans together with guests from the Japanese and US sectors of the anime and manga industry, as well as gaming, cinema, and Asian culture personalities. The event includes a huge exhibit hall, a massive video game room, concerts, dances, educational panels and workshops, premiere screenings, autograph sessions, 24-hour video rooms, tabletop gaming and much, much more!

#4 A-Kon
A-kon A-Kon® is the oldest continually running, anime-based convention in North America. A-Kon hosts anime fans and guests and offers other items of interest ranging from gaming to independent film, all in the quest to provide the best experience for the fans and bring the most engaging and educational entertainment to the anime community.

#5 Anime Boston

#7 Anime Weekend Atlanta
awa AWA has a wide variety of events including video room showings of Japanese cartoons from new releases and titles going back to the 1960’s, a dealer’s room with retailers who sell Japanese animation and manga related merchandise such as toys, videos, audio CDs and artwork, workshops, panel discussions on various topics including the current trends in Japan and how they will affect the United States, a costume contest where attendees dress up as their favorite anime or manga character, and scores of guests who have worked or currently are working in the industry.

#9 Youmacon
youmacon Youmacon is a popular culture event similar to most “Comic Cons”, however instead of focusing on comic books, Youmacon is a celebration of Japanese popular culture and its influence on our own culture over the past few decades. Common themes throughout the event are Anime (Japanese animation), Video Games, Japanese style artwork and comics, and the rising internet culture influenced by all of the above.

#10 San Japan
san japan San Japan is San Antonio, Texas largest anime convention. Located at the heart of the Riverwalk, we will be taking place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio Grand Hyatt Hotel and Marriott Riverwalk Hotel. We bring a wide variety of Japanese animation, culture, and unique fandoms all together for 3 days of continuous events. With over 14,600 unique attendees in 2014, we expect this to be our biggest event to date.

intervention Intervention, a visionary combination of educational conference plus geek gaming festival returns to Rockville, MD this Aug. 14-16, 2015 for its sixth year. Its goal? #16 ConnectiCon
connecticon ConnectiCon is a membership-based organization, run by a very dedicated volunteer staff. ConnectiCon is New England’s ONLY massively, multi-genre pop culture convention, the convention’s focus is on all things pop culture and does every genre of pop culture in as big a way as possible. The event attracts over 12,000 people to the Hartford area annually, and plans to expand to other venues in downtown Hartford. ConnectiCon was the proud recipient of the Bring It Home Award from the Greater Hartford Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

#19 Anime USA
anime usa Anime USA began in 1999 as a 3-day Japanese animation convention in northern Virginia. It was started by fans and in 2004, became a non-profit educational organization. Anime USA’s mission is to promote, as well as educate the public about Japanese arts and popular culture. As in the beginning, Anime USA remains a convention of Otaku, by Otaku, for Otaku. Anime USA is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit.

#20 AnimeNEXT
AnimeNext AnimeNEXT is the largest independently organized anime convention in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. The convention features Japanese creators of anime and manga, voice actors from anime series, Japanese musical acts, artists, vendors and exhibits, panels, workshops, and gaming. Events all focus on aspects of anime, manga, and Japanese culture. With the popularity of anime and manga growing in the 1990’s and 2000’s, anime conventions have seen positive growth in their attendance; AnimeNEXT is no exception. AnimeNEXT has been in existence since 2002 and is organized by Universal Animation.

nandesukan Nan Desu Kan (a Japanese pun translating loosely to ‘what is it?’) began its life in 1997 at the Tivoli Student Union as a small, fan-run convention with just 200 or so attendees. These days, several hotels and more than a decade later, NDK is still a fan-run convention. And with a total weekend attendance of more than 21,000 (over 7,000 people per day), it’s now the largest convention in Colorado and 14 surrounding states (excluding Texas), as well as one of the top 15 largest anime conventions in the country.

saboten Saboten Con is an American anime convention held in Phoenix, Arizona and organized by Monkey Paw Entertainment. The convention is held on Labor Day weekend and lasts for 4 days (Fri-Mon). It is currently hosted at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix. Saboten Con is the largest anime convention in Arizona with attendance reaching 5,137 for the 2014 event.

another anime con Another Anime Convention is run by people who love Japanese culture especially Japanese animation located at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, NH. tsubasacon Tsubasacon is an annual convention currently held at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and Riverfront Ballroom and Conference Center. Historically, Tsubasacon started in 2004 and was held in Charleston, WV. In 2006 Tsubasacon moved to it’s current home in Huntington, WV and has grown in scale dramatically over it’s 11 year tenure while still maintaining it’s small hometown con charm. Popular large events include the Masquerade, Anime Music Video Contest, Concerts, Game Shows, and the Midnight Rave. Tsubasacon is a three day fun-filled event that offers late-night dances, video programming, gaming rooms, and many informative guest and fan panels. Many of the attendees take advantage of the opportunity to cosplay at the convention, and there are many gatherings for fans of different anime and manga series.

anime banzai Anime Banzai is an educational convention focusing on Japanese anime (animation), manga (comics) and culture. Anime Banzai is sponsored by Utah Anime Promotions, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to bringing the culture, art and fun of Japan to Utah. In 2005, the first Anime Banzai was held and hosted 600 attendees, which was double what we had planned for. natsukon What is NatsuCon anyway? “Natsu” comes from Japanese word for Summer, and “Con”- well, “Con” is short for Convention. The two combine to form “NatsuCon” a summertime convention in Collinsville, IL. During the summer various conventions are held around the country – and around the world; from Defcon to to Comic Con to Otakon� The only problem is, they’re hours away! The goal of NatsuCon is to provide the St. Louis area with an easily accessible convention packed with star-studded guests, entertaining live acts, talented artists, and – of course – lots and lots of pocky! NatsuCon is an anime convention, meaning it will focus on Japanese animation, video games, manga comics, and Japanese traditions and culture. All attendees are allowed to and encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters, and will even have a chance at winning awards for best costumes in our Masquerade! saikou con SaikouCon, which means “best convention”, is the Lehigh Valley’s first and only large scale, annual anime convention. Boasting a dedicated staff of longtime Japanese anime and manga fans, SaikouCon is excited to be the only annual convention dedicated exclusively to anime, manga, and Japanese culture and pop culture in this area of Northeast Pennsylvania. The convention grew out of the now defunct, but soon to be relaunched, webzine Anime Ate My Brain Magazine; the sibling webzine to Tastes Like Rock! Music Magazine. Both journalistic endeavors fall under the newly renamed Nerdy Rock ‘n Roller Publishing, which will be growing in diversity in 2015.

fandomcon What exactly is FANdom? FANdom is a predominately anime based convention that also covers comics, video games and sci-fi We’ll try to bring everything and anything fans want to see! Our new location at the Emerald Coast Convention Center in Fort Walton Beach will allow us to hold more events and open things up for attendees to roam around and have a great time. The recent FANdom boasted a wide variety of events including: Stand-up Comedy Performances, A Concert performed by local rock band The Offer, Cosplay Contests,18+ panels, Video Game and board game rooms, and much more. We wanted year five to be bigger and better than year three and four combined, and we feel that we succeeded with a grand total of 1,500 individual registered guests after moving to a new venue. This time around, November 6-8, 2015, we want to increase the amount of events while still giving you the classic events from years past. Year six will prove itself to be bigger and better than year five and we hope to continue this trend for years to come.

We pride ourselves in maintaining a family friendly standard, making our convention a safe and fun environment for all ages. In 2014 we attracted over 1300 attendees and we expect to continue to grow. 2014 was our sixth year running and our second year at the Spokane Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown Spokane, right next to River Front Park.
